Where It Started
We're Pro Squad Prints, a Melbourne based family who are just as sports mad as most people in Australia. I grew up a Coventry City supporter in Nottingham, a different city altogether, and that alone made it my identity throughout school. Now our kid's sports and friends are shaping their identities.
So why Pro Squad Prints and what's behind the team packs you ask? Well, there were two moments that shaped why we exist: watching my daughter fall for her team, and a lunchtime kickabout back in my old print studio that turned into something bigger than we expected.
Every Season Has a Story
A couple of seasons ago, my daughter played for a local team and loved it. She didn't love the game the way I did, but she loved the friendships and being part of something. It didn't click for a second season, and these days she's swapped boots for a gi and does jiu-jitsu instead. But she still talks about that season. She's already forgetting some of her teammates' names, yet the end of season trophy still sits on a shelf, and it's fine, but it's not really what she wanted. It doesn't have her team on it, or any of the memories that came with it.
The Office Kickabout
That got me thinking back to my printing days in England, specifically a lunchtime kickabout with the football mad crowd in our design studio. As designers and printers, we did what designers and printers do: mocked up our own sports cards, gave ourselves stats, laid ourselves out like proper professionals. Those cards were the talk of the office for weeks. We compared numbers, argued about who'd been rated too fast, and actually raced each other around the car park to settle it. It was ridiculous, and it was brilliant, and two decades later I still remember it more clearly than most actual games we played.
Bringing It To Every Team
So that's the idea behind Pro Squad Prints. Every grassroots season is full of these moments: the teammate who could actually play, the one who was quicker than the rest, the group of friends that won the league or cup that season. A trophy doesn't hold any of that. A pack of pro style player cards does.
